March 2011 ~~~~~ Volume 14 Number 3

from our tribe to yours in March

Well the changing of the seasons is upon us. And while I love the seasonal changes sometimes I don’t like other changes. But you know what? It isn’t about me so I suppose I will just get used to them. I know who holds all events and I know that even when folks know the truth they don’t always submit to the truth, and boy does that hurt to watch. I have no doubts that God himself will deal with them but again it hurts to watch. Have you ever considered how much it hurts to “shake the dust from your feet and go on” when that dust is someone you love? And yet we trust the creator of the dust.

Thankfully the Lord puts us mostly before those who do accept the truth, and hunger for more of Him. Thank you Jesus.

I pray your tribe is blessed this month, let me share with you what I hear Him saying.

When you meet someone for the first time do you automatically go off of everything you have heard about them or do you watch and listen to see who they really are? Is that a new thought?

Most folks have heard something about the bible. But sadly enough most have heard wrong. Did you know that many of today’s common scriptures people quote are not in there?

Tell me where it says any of the following.

  1. Good people go to Heaven.
  2. She or He has a good heart.
  3. God says we should unconditionally love each other.
  4. God will help those who help themselves.
  5. The rapture is coming.
  6. All things work out for the best.
  7. God loves everyone the same.
  8. Come as you are.
  9. No one expects you to be perfect.
  10. Hell is not a real place.
  11. God doesn’t send good people to Hell.
  12. We aren’t supposed to judge.
  13. Me and God have it all worked out.
  14. All roads lead to Heaven as long as you live a good life.
  15. You don’t have to go to church to be saved.
  16. We are supposed to forgive and forget.

Many of those are outright lies, most have no scriptural basis at all and even the ones that are remotely scriptural are sorely twisted. Yet folks quote them everyday. And most believe them. That is why they have no real relationship with the Lord. I challenge you to not only get in your word but to begin to answer folks with real scripture. I am challenging myself to the same. We need to get back to our roots. We need to strengthen and water our roots. It isn’t enough to just study your bible for yourselves we need to share it.

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Deuteronomy 6:4-8

We need to share real answers with folks not just remix the same ole ones. Because the same ole ones aren’t getting anyone anywhere.

Behind bars

I read a testimony this morning of a young man who sat in a drug house and mockingly said to God, “show me if you are real.” Then he gave the creator of time a time limit.

Guess who showed who?

Of course our Lord is real and while that man may have been mocking with His voice the Lord heard his heart, and it really wanted an answer. An honest answer. And while I did not hear more of this man’s story I would probably guess that there were other folks involved. Folks who were obedient to God’s voice who did just the right thing at just the right time.

I encourage you to be one of those people.

We watched this movie last night so I thought I would share my opinion. Yep you get my 2 cents worth for free :) . This is the story of the Amish school shooting that happened a few years back. Having a heart for children and seeing clearly the dangers of public school, I pay close attention when I hear of school shootings, and I pray, hard. It truly breaks my heart and this one was no different, I remember it happening even though it was several states away.

I don't know know how closely this story follows the real one but it is believable that it could be close. The Amish folks were not much at all like our real Amish neighbors here in TN but I know there are different sects so who knows. The story line was good but the "realness" could have been much better. The guys appeared to have fake beards and the women had makeup on. I think any actress could forgo makeup to make a part real. But maybe that is just me. The story goes through the process of forgiveness after the shooting that resulted in the deaths of several young girls. And with some it was really hard to do. It brings up good family discussion but in general my crowd described it as "sad". Very sad. And I think they all cried. The actress who played the murderers wife was very good and made you really feel for her character.

Tragedy is sad. All the way around. But when we choose to take matters in our own hearts and harbor unforgiveness we are taking away the sovereignty of God. Judgment is His place. We can judge actions and determine whether they are right or wrong but it is up to God to dole out justice. We have received mercy so we should react with mercy, the rest is up to Him.

Anyway as for the movie, well is was pretty good, not really good but pretty good, and very tastefully done. The movie is family safe, and non offensive (except for the beards, lol) . The subject matter is the only reason you may need to consider whether or not it is appropriate for your family. Without spoiling anything I will say the end was worth sticking through the movie. God wins as usual. :)
