I recently wrote a bible study book about the first Thanksgiving in America. Now I had studied and even taught on the subject several times, but something got me this time. Maybe it is because America today is so different than it was last year. To say we have become watered down is like calling Niagra Falls a babbling brook. Things are changing fast around here. What I was astounded by was the fact that our forefathers SUFFERED and THANKED GOD IN SPITE OF IT. Today we gripe if Walmart is out of the newest Christmas toy. We think that is suffering. We have such a “I deserve it” attitude. God’s Word tell us …

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Do not put out the Spirit’s fire; 1 Thessalonians 5:17-19

yet are we? Do we? By not doing so we do put out the Spirit’s fire. By not thanking God in ALL things we are saying He doesn’t know best. We are implying we could do better. We are in effect dangerously close to proclaiming ourselves as God.

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7

Isn’t the fact that we have HIM enough to make us thankful in all things? And yet it gets better.

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29

In light of all that, what could we possible have to complain about?
