I read a testimony this morning of a young man who sat in a drug house and mockingly said to God, “show me if you are real.” Then he gave the creator of time a time limit.

Guess who showed who?

Of course our Lord is real and while that man may have been mocking with His voice the Lord heard his heart, and it really wanted an answer. An honest answer. And while I did not hear more of this man’s story I would probably guess that there were other folks involved. Folks who were obedient to God’s voice who did just the right thing at just the right time.

I encourage you to be one of those people.

Please remember we have all broken the law at one time or another, either man’s law or God’s law, whether intentional or accidental, we are all guilty. The wages of sin are death but instead Jesus extends grace to all who ask. It amazes me how folks look down on inmates. In reality we should see how they are God’s chosen, He cares enough about them to put them in a place where they will hear His Word and have time to devote to Him. Sometimes I wonder if He doesn’t bless them more than the church that doesn’t have time for Him.

I take that back, there is no wondering about it.

The other morning Jim was preaching at the county jail. He is in a separate room where the lawyers meet with the inmates one on one. Kind of appropriate don’t you think? The ultimate defender meeting with them one on one, but in a group? God is so good . Anyway some sort of ruckus, well actually a near riot broke out outside the room. The whole group, Jim and the inmates were all so focused on the presence of God they never knew what was happening. The whole jail was locked down. No other ministers were allowed in that morning. No one knew until they left the room and the guards were waiting to make sure Jim got out safe.

We are always saying that what God does with these inmates is a lesson for all of us. Get focused, and stay focused. Who cares what is going on outside the door, keep your eyes on His face.
