It amazes me how many folks look down on those behind bars. They often think all they can learn is salvation, or rather maybe they think that is all they need. The need discipleship, and encouragement, and truth is they often know more bible than those going in to “do their duty” by ministering to them. Yes they have sinned and yes been caught. But have we not all sinned?

If you ever get the opportunity to minister to those behind bars count it as a blessing. If your eyes are open you will learn more than you teach and God will show you things about your own walk. We are in this together and one is never greater than the other

Recently I asked a few (hundred) friends to pray for the county jail ministry on Sunday morning. 4 times the normal amount of guys which is a real big deal, and the were hungry and they really responded! We used to have the Tuesday evening time slot but now it is Sunday morning. At 8 am. Sunday morning that comes after Saturday night. These guys have 3 choices come Sunday morning. They can either sleep, have rec time or go to Jim’s service. So for a sinner who doesn’t yet know he needs Jesus to get out of bed at 8 am on a Sunday morning while he is in jail, and mind you it is not the cool thing to do, for him to come to the service is a very big deal, and the Lord does not disappoint them.

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I know you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are ready to kill me, because you have no room for my word. I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you do what you have heard from your father.^“

For those who are behind bars and those who are not, the key to freedom is the same. Knowing the one who IS truth.

Everywhere we look it is a new season. The men who had been leading worship at the prison have been either released or transferred. The schedule changed in the county jail and actually the whole system changed. We never know how many times we will be allowed to walk through an open door. We must be grateful for every opportunity. Please remember these men behind bars. Please pray for them daily. This ministry is one of the most fruitful there is.
